The Story of my Life

for life would no longer teach me anything..."

Things I love: Pomelo

Posted by Claire |

I rediscovered the goodness of Pomelo and other citrus fruits since I've gotten pregnant. And to this day, I make it a point to get a daily dose of either mandarin or pomelo, thereby making pomelo and mandarin a staple in our household.

Some friends went to Davao a couple of weeks back and I got pomelo as pasalubong. How sweet is that? Thanks friends! And then, one day while I was busy watching my teleserye, I didn,t realize I ate the whole pomelo by myself. And I swear, I could finish a tray of ready-to-eat pomelo (such as the photo above) if no one is looking.

Well oh well, better than to eat pastries right?!

Things I love: QUESO DE BOLA CHEESECAKE

Posted by Claire |

Photo from: Dessert Comes First

It was love at first taste. I'm not a big fan of cheescakes but this cheesecake blew me away the first time I tried it. Unlike other cheesecakes, that's all sweet and velvety, this cheesecake has the balance of both sweet and salty taste, plus crumbly texture! It's soooooooooooo yummy.

Try it for yourself. Order from The Cru Kitchen.

Baby Pics

Posted by Claire |

Just recently, I found pictures of me when I was a kid circulating in Facebook. Kuya said the woman posting these photos was a teacher at the Day Care Mom enrolled us in. Then a colleague, after seeing the photos, called me this morning to inform me that that Day Care was run by Gabriela, an NGO, which his wife used to work for. Small world!
Here are some of the photos:

And then, I found more photos of me as a kid.

Did you notice one thing in common about these pictures? Bangs! Yes! Bangs! I guess, when you're young, bangs was in. :) Thinking if I should give my baby some bangs too.

Home Filing System

Posted by Claire |

During my spring cleaning, I managed to sort some of our family's important documents. Some of which are government licenses/certificates, car registrations, housing loan documents, medical records, etc.

As of this writing, these docs are housed in one of the drawers in our bedroom. Working in the company's legal department has taught me the importance of filing documents--for easy retrieval and less chance of losing docs. Filing is important, but its not fun. At work, I usually let my papers pile up until I file them. I dont know how different it will be at home. But at some point I know I need to get it into my system.

So you, how do you file your docs? And how efficient are you in filing them?

I heart Flats

Posted by Claire |

It is true, that when you're pregnant, your feet get bigger. At 5 3/4 months, I could hardly fit in in my size 5 shoe. Well, to put it more accurately, I still could get my feet in but it doesn't feel comfortable walking in them anymore.

So last weekend, while waiting for the husbo at Glorietta, I grabbed these pairs at Parfois.

Got a size 6 of this for P1,040. Not bad eh?

This one I got for P1,380.

Thanks, Gil, for introducing Parfois to me.

Cooking Classes

Posted by Claire |

Read from Chuvaness about 25 Mushrooms and now I'm itching to enroll! One class that I super want to enroll in is the Thai class. You see, the past few days, the husband has been going crazy over Thai food.

These classes are a steal for P1,100 per session! The only downside is that classes happen on weekdays so I will have to take a leave, which I don't mind at all. I can get a few days off from work if I have to. But lemme think about it.

For the Thai Class, the recipes are: Pomelo salad, Tom Yum soup, bagoong rice, steamed fish with coriander, chili, garlic, phad Thai, green chicken curry, sticky rice with mangoPlus: Recycling basics, kitchen hygiene and personal hygiene.

The Pink Planner

Posted by Claire |

After bugging the husbo for several days, I finally managed to convince him to use a planner so he can remember his deadlines and appointments. I made him choose from the two planners I have and he picked the one given by Mellay because of the space allotted per day. I asked him again and again if he wanted it despite the color (hot pink) and he said he didn't mind.

Backtrack to December. While he was in a party with PSID peeps, a girl started a conversation with him by asking, "Are you straight or gay?" The husbo thought it was a funny remark so he played along and replied "I'm gay". And all night long, the girl kept asking him about his personal life, i.e. if he had a partner and if none, if he was willing to hook up with her friend. The husbo didn't have the chance to retract what he said so he left it at that.

Fast forward to last week, on their second week of class at PSID. The same girl was seated next to him in one class. He only recognized her when she said "OMG! We have the same planner!" referring to the pink planner. And he remembered that this is the same girl who thought he was gay. The planner must have confirmed the idea in her mind that he's gay. Oh nooo!

Well, she can think all she wants, but I'm certain he's not gay. :)

21 Weeks

Posted by Claire |

21 weeks based on Babycenter, but as per my counting, I'm already at 22 weeks. My bump is really showing and it's twice harder to fit in my old clothes (read: shorts and pants). I've also started buying more maternity pants and dresses for work.

Anyway, I got excited when I read this alert from Babycenter.ph.

And I feel like baby also read the article because this week I've been feeling her light touches (or maybe kicks and punches?) regularly, mostly in the morning and afternoon. Today alone, when I was convincing myself to get up (for an hour), I felt baby's soft touches again as if saying "mom, you're late. you better get up."

Budgeting (2nd Try)

Posted by Claire |

I got inspired with what I saved up last year, so this year I wish to double my savings by being more aggressive. I just revived my excel chart of expenses and I promise to make a conscious effort to update it regularly. Last year, I think I did promise the same, but failed. This time, I will make sure that I will not fail. hehehe

I've just set my financial goal for 2011, if I am strict with my budget I'm sure I can achieve it. I've also amended my monthly budget to reflect the recent price increases for gasoline, groceries and electricity. I am also anticipating budget changes come the baby. But will deal with that once the baby is here.

Wish me luck!

Lens or Flash?

VS

I know, it's the new year, and I shouldn't be thinking about spending too much. But I've been itchin' to buy one of these two gadgets since Christmas. I super want it. I bought a tripod last December, and if I were a little loose on the money, I would've grabbed either a flash or the lens. gggrrr...will think about it more.

An open letter to the Birthday Boy

Posted by Claire |

Dearest Hon,

Happy happy birthday. Although today doesn’t seem like a special day because of all your stress at work and school, I hope that you feel God’s love embracing you as you reach your 32nd birthday. You’ve been a loving husband, an excited father, a caring son and a dependable friend so you deserve a peaceful and blissful day.

Today, I hope that we made you feel loved more than the way you love us. You’ve been a great husband to me and I don’t regret walking down the aisle for you. All the sacrifices you’ve made to make our family-life delightful are all appreciated. So today, I have these wishes for you, hoping that God will grant them:

I wish that your client will be kinder to you today.

I wish that God brings out an aura of peace and compassion to you so that your client will be infected by it.

I wish that your Professor will somehow extend the deadline of submission of plates to give you more time to work on it.

I wish that the weather won’t be too hot today while your at the site so you won’t feel stinky and dirty while doing your job.

I wish that you’ll have enough energy to sustain you today despite the lack of sleep from working late for your plates.

I wish that the traffic to work will not be as bad as it normally is so you can be there early.

I wish that your new project will go smoothly and that your new clients will be as warm as the previous couple you worked with.

I wish you’ll have another project by mid-year.

I wish that Struktura will be stronger and bigger in the design industry this year.

I wish that you’ll never get tired of my cooking nor bringing out the trash as needed.

I wish that you can learn how to efficiently juggle your time for work, school family and self. I’m not complaining, I just wish that you can do the things you want without sacrificing others that are equally important.

I wish that you’ll be as patient as always with my tantrums, kakulitan and non-sense.

I wish that you’ll never get tired of puttig me to sleep everytime you need to stay up late for work and school.

I wish that this year, you’ll have more time for exercise so you can be as fit as you once were. Hehe

I wish that you’ll learn to regularly drink your vitamins. :)

I wish that you’ll learn how to cook. Hehehe

I wish that you’ll eventually learn how to read to our children, with emotion and enthusiasm. :)

I wish that our first born will be a healthy baby boy so that he can be just like you…responsible, caring and loving. What a joy that would be if I had two men caring for me! Bu if God wills to have a baby girl, I hope that she’ll be as malambing as you want her to be, hugging and kissing you when your stressed, and lovingly removes your socks when you’re too tired and sleepy to take them off by yourself.

And most, importantly, I wish that you feel how much love I have for you everyday of our lives together.

There’s so much more I’d want for you to have but this will be a loooooooong post if I write them all in, so I will stop here.

Happy birthday, Jerome! See you later.

Spring Cleaning 2011

Posted by Claire |

In an effort to make our home clutter-free, I went through our stuff and threw away those that we hardly use. I plan to make this an annual effort, so help me God.

I started doing our room as there's one corner in our bedroom that seems to be the "tambakan" of almost everything. I hate that corner and I've been meaning to clean it every since but never had the chance. So last week, while the husbo was working, I finally did. Here's what I took out from that corner.

I wanted to clean the storage room but realized there are a lot of stuff in that room that requires lifting so I asked the helper to clean it. She did some reorganizing but not throwing away. So basically, there are still some useless stuff in there. Hope to go through them one of these days.

I also want to let go some of our old clothes especially those of the husbo. Because, really, they're eating up too much space in our closet and, most importantly, when the baby comes we will need that space.

Let's see.

2010 Highlights

Posted by Claire |

If I could sum up 2010 for me, I would say that 2010 marked the beginning of a new life for me. New home, new responsibilities, new job, new car, etc.

The past year has been good to me and I praise God for that. From a tumultous 2009, he made 2010 peaceful, fun and full of love and happiness.

Married the man of my dreams.
Honeymoon at KL and Bali

Joined ADB Volleyball club’s beach volleyball at Bora with the Husbo.
Husbo and I decided to our own house which we can move into by May this year.

Bought my first (laptop)computer.

April

Roadtrip again, but this time to Bataan for the ADB annual summer outing.
Got my advance birthday gift from the Husbo.

June

We started to seriously work on having a baby.
We got Beamer.

July

Had a minor procedure done.

August

Saw CATS the Musical.
Joined my first non-ADB Badminton Tourney.
Impromptu trip to Tagaytay with the BigBarks.

September

Celebrated my 32nd birthday in Cebu.
Got our first brand new family car.
We found out that I was 6 weeks pregnant!

October

We bid farewell to Krugger.
I was ordered to bed-rest for 3 weeks because I had spottings.

November

Got back to work again after a long period of rest.

December.

Had a glimpse of my baby thru the ultrasound. Such an amazing experience!
This year, we're expecting to move in to our new home and having our little bundle of joy. I also hope that this year, God will shower us with more love and happiness.

A prosperous new year, everyone!

What to do? What to do?

Posted by Claire |

Received two planners last year as christmas presents. The Starbucks planner is from my brother and sister-in-law, the other one from a dear friend. If I add the office-issued planner, I have three!
Now what should I do with three planners?
I can't use any of these for white elephant because (1) the people who gave it to me are too important, I feel like I'll be betraying them if I gave them away again; and (2) they are too pretty to be given away.
I thought, the office issued-planner would be to list down my things to do at work. And the Starbucks planner will serve as my daily journal...which I doubt if I could keep up because I'm not good at that. The third one, I dont know.
Any ideas?

Christmas

Posted by Claire |

This Christmas is extra special for me and the husbo because its the first year he and i celebrated it as husband and wife. And it follows that we also spent christmas with two families.

I felt the pressure of Christmas days before because of the thought that I have to accompany the husbo with his (last minute) shopping and to prepare everything for my family otherwise no one else will. Good thing that on the day of Christmas, our reliable Beth came to my rescue so everything back home was well taken care of.

Spent dinner with my family. My brother, sister-in-law, uncle, aunt, cousin and, of course, dad was with us. I miss my family. But I'm not complaining because my new family is equally important. After dinner, we moved to Jom's family for Noche Buena. The next day was Jom's family's annual Christmas party which made the bump look bigger because of all the food we ate.

Anyway, this year, Husbo and I did not only celebrate Christmas together, we'll also be celebrating our first year anniversary!! Can't believe that it has been a year. Time flies talaga when you're having fun, to quote a friend. hehehe

This year has been great. And I believe I've been good at spending and saving up so I thought of rewarding myself with this one. :)

And husbo gave me this as Christmas and Anniversary present! Yehey! I have new babies. :)) I sooooo love it!

Thank you Hon! Love you. Let's get your car bumper na!

Christmas in our Home Sweet Home

Posted by Claire |

I'm a sucker for Christmas decors so I couldn't let Christmas pass without decorating, for the first time, our lovely abode. Had these made early in December. It's only now that I got to take pictures..bummer!

The main door.

The Living Area.

We got these little santas from World Trade Center in one of our shopping trips. How's that for 3 for 500 bucks?

The Dining Room. (Apologies for the yellowish color. Forgot to adjust the settings.)

I wanted a christmas tree in the house, but because of the lack of space, we settled with what we can grab to give it the christmas touch. Not bad, eh?

All these, of course, was put up with assistance. Thanks to Armands!

Panahon Ko `To MBA Year-End Party

Posted by Claire |

My head is still throbbing due to lack of sleep and my feet are still sore. Had our MBA year-end party in our home which means Husbo and I were busy playing host and hostess. As usual, it was a riot. Parties with these people are usually like that, and it's not because of just one person, it's because everyone is makulit and rowdy all at the same time. I can just imagine how disturbing we were to our neighbors last night, and I can't really blame them. Everyone was speaking at the top of their lungs and laughing to their heart's delight.

The Earlybirds: Jom, Me, Des, Kathy, Jayvee and Romeo

This is all of us. Only one person is missing: Wilson
From L-R: Enganged couple Patchi and JV, Ching, Rome, Ritchie, Jason, Kathy, Jayvee, Des, Jom and I

Borrowed a friend's template of Panahon Ko `To and tweaked the questions to make it more appropriate for a Christmas party. Had 3 groups of 3, with each group having someone represent the 70s, 80s and 90s.

Group 1 - Kathy (70s), Des (80s) and Jason (90s)
Group 2 - Jayvee (70s), Ching (80s) and JV (90s)
Group 3 - Rome (70s), Ritchie (802) and Patchi (90s)

Knowing how much these people hate admitting their age, I grouped them without telling which era they were representing. It was up to them to admit which era they belong to for as long as someone will say the magic words: Panahon ko `to!

To which Ritchie replied: Panahon ni Rome yan!
Ritchie answered: Tinimbang ka ngunit kulang.
Rome: Panahon ko `to! Bell bottom. Nagsusuot kasi ang ako ng bell bottoms nung 90s.
Kathy: Panahon ko `to! Disney Channel?
Everyone burst out in laughter knowing that Kathy was way mature than the rest of us, we can't accept there's Disney Channel in the 70s.

Ching: Panahon ko-nya to! (pointing at JV)
Weng weng, as you know, became popular in the 70s. Ching realized she was answering a question relevant in the 70s and she doesn't want to be identified in the 70s era.
Ritchie was the first to raise his hand with this question but couldn't let out the answer. Kathy, who belonged to the other group blurted out the answer with inip...Spray Net!

After the game, we had white elephant exchange gift.
Up next, we played the walang-kamatayang Pinoy Henyo.
Des and Ching seemed like they were on drugs that night, heckling and doing just anything to disturb the person on the seat. Super hyper mode these two ladies!

Ching: English?
Hindee
Ching: Tagalog
Hindee
Ching: Shet? Ano to? Espanyol?

The night ended a little past midnight. The house was a mess, of course, and my feet were soooo tired. But it was all worth it. Had a great time. I'm usually one of the most makulit in the group but because of my condition, had to lay low. I sooooo missed these guys.

Parties, parties, parties!

Posted by Claire |

Last week marked the beginning of lots of parties to usher in the Holidays. I'm loving the holidays, because for the first time in so long I can eat whatever I everything (in moderation of course).

First, the Badminton Club Party. Which I don't have a photo of.

Second, Life is Shorts party of the Volleyball Club. Where I took home 500 worth of GCs.

Then the OGC Mardi Gras Year-End Party, where the party was so colorful. And for the first time, I felt deprived of alcohol so I ordered a glass of wine for props and smelling purposes. hehehe

And then, one PS arrived in Policeman costume who rocked the house down.

Finally, there is the Christmas party with my YDWTL family. The first time in 6 years of being a Dazer that I was able to attend it.

ps. Check out the bulge!

My monthly check up with my OB is coming up. And with all the food I ate, got worried that I might have gone over the weight limit for this month. Luckily, I only gained 3lbs. Hooray to that!

More parties lined up in the next two weeks. Will keep you posted.

Thanks to friends for the photos.
