Pedring and Tequila Sunrise

Posted by Claire |

Typhoon Pedring left the husbo and I stuck in our home for one whole day. Most part of which we spent sleeping and playing with Kara. When the winds finally calmed down, Husbo and I saw the opportunity to grab our stash of tequila to warm up our cold night.

Thanks to HB Hazel for the new concoction, Husbo and I enjoyed our home-made Tequila Sunrise made up of 1 part tequila against 3 parts soda, then some salt and lemon for garnishing.

When we had enough, we went to bed, chatted and laughed about how silly we are when intoxicated. Had a good laugh that night and I loved it.

Valentine's at the Sky

Posted by Claire |

Husbo and I are not big at spending Valentine's day but we still make it a point to celebrate it in our own little way. Yesterday, after mass, we headed to Vivere Suites, Alabang, to have some sort of pre-valentine's date. It is, by far, the most we've done for Valentine's.

The view from the Sky Lounge is breathtaking, and that's only at lunch time. Just imagine how spectacular the view from there would be at night time...with all the city lights. Nice, romantic and chilly! hehehe I have to warn you, though, that the food is not as great as the view. There's nothing extraordinary about it, but I can't complain cause the prices are on the average.

Next time we're in Alabang, I'd suggest Bellevue to the husbo. A friend told me their food is tastier than Vivere.

For now, I'll leave you with the Grape slush I had with my meal. Hope it gives you that cool feeling in this hot v-day afternoon.

21 Weeks

Posted by Claire |

21 weeks based on Babycenter, but as per my counting, I'm already at 22 weeks. My bump is really showing and it's twice harder to fit in my old clothes (read: shorts and pants). I've also started buying more maternity pants and dresses for work.

Anyway, I got excited when I read this alert from Babycenter.ph.

And I feel like baby also read the article because this week I've been feeling her light touches (or maybe kicks and punches?) regularly, mostly in the morning and afternoon. Today alone, when I was convincing myself to get up (for an hour), I felt baby's soft touches again as if saying "mom, you're late. you better get up."

Wish List 2010

Posted by Claire |

The paper I just reviewed for my boss made me more sleepy. I need to do something to perk me up so I thought I should write down my Christmas wish list. I haven’t done this for a couple of years already, so I’ll revive it this year.

1. Basic baking tools. I want to make a good use of our oven and start baking again. But I lost all the baking tools mom gave me back in highschool. The only ones left are the measuring cups and spoons which will not get me anywhere so I need a new set of baking tools. i.e. baking pans of all shapes and sizes, rolling pins, spatula, liquid measuring cup, cooking cutters, mixers, whip etc.

2. Prime Lens, Tripod, and flash. Since I got Honeylet, I’ve not been able to upgrade it except for the expensive camera bag I bought when her original bag broke. I’ve been wanting to buy a tripod for our travels and a prime lens so I can get more beautiful portrait photos. I’m itching to get this now because when the baby is here I’m sure I'm gonna need to take close-up photos of the baby's feet, fingers and face.

3. Lots of undergarments. You know naman, I’m expanding everyday and most of my undies are small/medium. It gets irritating na down there. Hahahaha! So arte.

4. Season 5-6-7 Grey’s Anatomy. Managed to finish Season 4 and half of Season 5 of Grey’s Anatomy when I was on bed rest.

5. Olive oil. To minimize stretchmarks. I’m allergic to cocoa butter so olive oil only please.

6. Bag. Is being a semi bag hag good enough reason? A Gucci or Goyard bag. hehehe

7. Classical Music CDs for my little one. Although, my readings said there’s really no scientific basis for claiming that a classical music enhances a baby’s brain, I will still try. I won’t lose anything if I did right?

8. Maternity Dresses/Clothes. I’ve been having a hard time finding clothes to wear and maternity dresses are really way out of my style. So I need to get shapeless, trapeze or jersey maxi dresses.

9. Accessories. I also need to start using accessories now that my face is changing. The accerssories will focus people's attention to it and away from my kamatis-like nose.

10. iPad. I’m not really a fan of gadgets but for some reason. I’m beginning to be interested in this gadget.

11. iPod Dock. So that Baby can listen to classical music while im sleeping.

There, my WISHlist. Hope I win in the lotto soon. hehehe

My Shoe Shine Boy

Posted by Claire |

I've stopped wearing heels since I got pregnant. This means my heels have accumulated molds and dust just lying on the shoe rack. A friend told me that you should give it some fresh air to maintain its fresh look. And so the next day, I took it out and left it where it could get the needed air.

But, last night, I found out the Husbo cleaned my most loved shoes. How sweet is that? hehehe.

Thanks hon. Love you to bits. :)

Turning 32

This is a super late post, I know. Lately have been tamad to write anything. But since internet connection here at in-law's house is ultra fast, I might as well take advantage of it.

As you probably know, spent my birthday in Cebu with highschool friends. And what better way to spend your birthday than feast on Cebu's best? Lechon.

Yes, we bought 1 whole Lechon and brought it with us to Alegre Beach Resort. I'm not a fan of Lechon but Cebu's lechon is oozing with flavor making it so hard for you to resist.

After lunch, we headed back to our room to snooze off all the fat we ate.

It has two big beds for four people. But if you're on a tight budget, you could sneak in a few more people who can sleep in the bathroom.

The next day, we headed to Cebu's lakeside restaurant to eat fresh seafood. Sorry, was too busy devouring on the food, I forgot to take pictures.

On our final day, we headed to have lunch in Yakiniku. A Japanese restaurant offering grilled buffet of beef and chicken.

And to cap off my birthday, the husbo called on a few friends to celebrate with us.

Birthday Gift

Posted by Claire |

I gave in to my craving. Hehehehe

And to justify this new purchase, I told myself this is an advance birthday gift to myself. Also I asked Jom’s approval and he was pleased with the design so he gave me the greenlight.

Here's my new baby.

Quiet Time

Posted by Claire |

When I used to have so much time in my hands, one of the things I did to while away the time on weekends was read my books in a quiet coffee shop. For a couple of years, though, I’ve not secluded myself and my books. I’ve been busy being a girlfriend/wife, a badminton player and a kapamilya fan (LOL) so I’ve neglected my books and my quiet time. But today, I've decided, I’m going to do just that. I’m going to find myself and my book a nice and quiet coffee shop so we can catch-up.

Old Friends are Best

Posted by Claire |

One good thing about getting married, is rekindling the friendships that were dormant because of the lack of time and distance. I know. I rekindled so many friendships when we got married.

One of them is my friendship with high school friends. You see out of all the friends I have, my high school friends are the ones whom I rarely see. Perhaps 2 or 3 times max in 2 years. That’s it.

I’m happy that our wedding paved the way for us to be in touch again after so many years.

This is us with Tina and Jajie in Jalapeno. We spent one weekend in summer at a beach in Batangas, and we're planning another getaway this September. In Cebu this time. Can't wait.

Things I love: Cooking

Posted by Claire |

Things-I-Love posts will be a series of posts about the things that make me happy. Got this idea from a blogger friend. Thanks mucho!

Perhaps I got my love for cooking from my parents. When I was young, my parents alternate in cooking our weekend lunch food. On holidays, I would assist my mom in cooking our Noche Buena and Media Noche. When I was old enough she passed on to me the tricks of cooking our favorite holiday dishes – spaghetti and potato salad. So by the time she passed away I was ready to take on the responsibility as "Holiday Chef". When Dad was diagnosed with a kidney problem he was forbidden from eating red meat, so I started experimenting different seafood recipes. And my love for cooking started growing since then.

Now that I'm married, I get to cook as much as I want (due to the absence of a house help). And being married to a man with an imaginative palate drives me to learn new dishes to satisfy him. It also helps that when I cook, he appreciates whatever is served on the table, whether it be misua and sardines or smoked fish. Cooking, as a major production number is very tiring, you’re standing up the whole time and the oven’s heat make you sweat like a pig, but seeing the husbo gobble up all that food makes all the pagod disappear.

Don’t get me wrong, though, I’m no Chef. Not even close. I’m still learning. I still get the taste wrong and I still refer to recipes when cooking. I guess I have to practice more or maybe enroll in a cooking class one of these days to improve my skill and acquire more cooking tips. It’s in the pipeline, actually, just haven’t decided which cuisine to prioritize.

To Write is to Forget

Posted by Claire |

I want a new bag. I said it hoping that the feeling will go away as the words escape my lips.

The idea came out when I realized that I’ve been using the Louis Vuitton bag everyday since husbo gave it to me last year. Out of 365 days, I could count with my fingers the number of times I let it rest.

I know I can’t spend much these days because we’re saving up on a major trip next year. And if I don’t save up, I’ll be left behind which is unacceptable. So for now, I’ll just be contented with having them in my blog.

I vividly remember saying I don’t get this bag. I’ve seen so many of these lately and I really don’t get why it cost so much given its look and design. But today and yesterday, it’s what I’ve been eyeing for. So weird me!

Next is this bag. I like it. I like their shoes too. But the price of the shoes I like is almost the same as the price of this bag. It’s smarter to get a bag than a pair of shoes for the same price, don’t you think?

I hope tomorrow I'll forget about these bags. I hope our bills come tomorrow and then I'll realize I need to save. Oh wait, I need to get a new battery for my car. There, enough motivation to not spend.

Facelift

Posted by Claire |

So what do you think? Of my blog’s new look that is. Have been wanting to give my blog a facelift but for lack of technical knowledge, I settled with my previous template. Then a kind soul taught me the tricks, and here you have it folks, a fabulous new look.

I chose this template because of my fascination for the color red. I’m getting and liking things in the shade of red. Red lipstick, red shoes, red bag, red clothes, and red furniture. Yes, red furniture. Husbo and I are thinking of getting an accent chair to match our home's black and gray motif, and the one we’re eyeing is a red coconut chair. Thus the couch up there (if couch is what you would call it).

The F21 Fever

Posted by Claire |

With all that hype regarding the opening of Forever 21 in the Philippines, you cannot help but be curious about what F21 is all about. Their marketing campaign was indeed a success because at 9:00 am on Friday, 2 July, people flocked the SM gates so they can be one of the first to enter the store.

At 12:00noon, as my friends and I were on to lunch, we passed by the store and was stunned to see that there was a long line of customers waiting for their turn to enter the store. Good thing there was a system like this otherwise there would’ve been a stampede. I have seen people lining up for a movie premiere, or an album launch of local or foreign artists, but not for a store of clothes!!

I went there Friday night to check out their items and it was true, the items were cheap. And there were tons to choose from. A shopper’s haven, indeed. But because there were lines everywhere - at the entrance, fitting rooms and cashier - I simply admired the clothes and promised to be back the next day.

I was back early the next day. The line at the entrance was shorter but not the fitting rooms and cashiers. I endured the waiting time since Husbo was out playing tennis anyway. Ergo, I got myself the following:

1. Two office dresses with matching belts - I have a thing about dresses and skirts these days as I feel more comfortable wearing them to work. For this year I think I had previously bought 9 dresses and 1 skirt.

2. A black skirt - the fabric is just too soft to pass up. And since it’s black, I have already created a list of tops I can match with it. It can also double as party/office skirt.

3. A white pair of shorts – my reliable white shorts, which I bought from F&H some 3 years ago, just decided to quit on me and since then I’ve been on the look out for a replacement – perfect fit and length. So when I saw this last piece of shorts on the rack, I grabbed it and decided 101% that I was getting it.

I wanted to shop some more but I was running out of moolah so I stopped before I go negative. But I promised myself I’ll be back…for accessories next time.

a bunch and a carwash

Posted by Claire |

I was up early today as I planned to get Krugger washed before I go to work. He really needs that bodywash dahil ang dugyot dugyot na nya and for heaven's sake V-day naman, he deserves some loving!!!

I was out of the door by 6:30am. As I walk towards him, I noticed that it regained its natural glow. I thought, someone must have wiped off the dirt from the windshield. I checked the rear to see if the dust and dried leaves I saw the night before was still there...but no it's squeaky clean. So I thought again "ah, bka lininisan nila Beth kaninang umaga", which is possible because she does that when she was still working for us. She would get up early, cook breakfast for us then clean our cars. But before I could get the key in the keyhole, I noticed the beautiful bunch on the passenger seat...a valentine treat from my Honey. :-)

So this morning, I had this silly grin on my face while driving to work. Ang sarap pala mag-drive ng malinis na kotse, lalo na kung iba ang nagpa-carwash (may libreng bulaklak pa, sosyal!). hehehehe. Thanks Babe!

Remember the nicely wrapped present I found on my desk? I opened it and it contained the book I asked for. And the donor? It's from my lovaaaahhh, sent thru his angel Dyosa.

I only found out when I noticed that the present he gave me on 21 December was wrapped the same way that mystery gift was wrapped.

Thanks Jom!

ANNOUNCEMENT

Posted by Claire |

I found a nicely wrapped present on my desk this morning. It doesn't say who it is for, so I assumed it's for me. If this is for my boss or for my friend, sorry but you would have to get them something else because I own it now. IT'S MINE.

Remember this: ANYTHING PLACED WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF MY TERRITORY FOR MORE THAN 1 HOUR WILL BE DECLARED MY PROPERTY UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED.

Merry Christmas people!

Ps. Thank you for the brilliant idea Diyosa.

Santa Claus is coming to town!

Posted by Claire |

A (mystery) passser-by left that message on my magnetic board a couple of weeks ago. It came with a box of chocolate that I'm supposed to eat everyday until Christmas. Yes, Santa Claus is coming to town! And before he does, I want to make sure he (and my baby, kuya and friends) wrapped the right presentSSSS for me. hehehehe

To my family and friends and special someone, below is a short list of what I want this Christmas. Feel free to get me everything. hehehehe

Pangkabuhayan Showcase

1. A townhouse at Enclave or a condo unit at Fort Bonifacio.
2. A brand new car. Not that I'm complaining with Krugger, I just need an extra car on days Krugger is off the road. Ang shoray!

Pangpalakasan Showcase

1. A dozen white socks (ankle high please) - nagbabacon na kasi ang mga socks ko. hahaha
2. Yoga matt. I'm planning to get into yoga next year. So I will need a matt for that.
3. A trendier badminton bag. The bag that I bought last year is breathing its last breath. Medyo terminal na sya. Need to get a new one!
4. A new badminton racquet.
5. New generation Ipod Nano (the red one!). I love Sabs but I need room for more songs.
6. A Mizuno rubbershoes.

Appliance Showcase

1. An industrial fan. I sleep with fan and fan alone. No aircon. So my fan makes my sleep more comfortable. But it has stopped working. *sigh* I want a fan! fan! fan!
2. DVD player. I just learned that our pirated DVD player has stopped working as well. I will be on long vacation and I need a DVD to keep me busy.

Pangpa-beauty Showcase

1. Shisheido make up set. Yes, I'm into make up these days. I'm experimenting, trying on different shades on my eyes. I love the smoky eyes look. :-)
2. 5-pc Suesh make up brushes. If you're feeling more generous, you can get me the MAC Heirloom Bag. hahaha
3. Because of this make up obsession, my kikay kit is packed. So I need a biggger make up kit enough to house all my make up.
4. MAC pressed powder. NW30 please. The shade is just right for me. You don't want me looking like espasol, do you? So give me the right shade please. :-)
5. A red bag.
6. Belle de Jour Power Planner.
7. A strappy silver shoes.

Iba-ibang Showcase

1. 2008 Our Daily Bread. I want the January to December edition. I read ODB every morning before I start working. So it would be nice if I could have one for 2008.
2. Khaled Hosseini's A Thousand Splendid Suns. I'm sure you've read this in my previous post.
3. The Secret. I have 3 books waiting to be read, but I want this in my shelf nonetheless.
4. Andy Warhol style picture of me and my baby. I want this. Really! It's super creative. If you don't know what I'm talking about, click here.

There. The things of what I want for Christmas. So, what are you waiting for?! Avoid the rush, shop now!
